Hi Mary,

We loved living in Valle Escondido!

We were 42 circle drive when we lived there. My husband built the home (although the folks that bought it may have remodeled it, they had said they were going to). We did only live there for about 18 mo, only because we moved east. We really liked it there, my sons loved the pool and play ground. They didn't have a community garden when we were there, but lots of the ladies did love to garden, so that doesn't surprise me.

As far as the neighborhood, we were younger than a lot of the folks up there full time, and many others were only part time folks. So it got really nice and quite in the winter ; )

That said, it is a mix of folks, and best of all, people keep to themselves, unless you don't want to and then you can join in on the club house stuff, they usually have pot lucks and such, it's a nice little community, but not pushy. And the location was great for us. A short commute to Taos (one of those "special places" in the world) but in the greener mountains. We would have stayed there if we'd stayed in NM.

I hope you enjoy your cabin! Send a picture if you ever get a chance!!

Hi. We are long-time New Mexicans but were unfamiliar with Valle Escondido until we stumbled on it last year. Now we're buying a cabin up there. We love it from our visits but I just wonder what it's like from the perspective of someone who has lived there. Willing to share your thoughts? Mary, Las Cruces
PS - I got a bit worried when I saw a car with "tea-bagger" and "down with the fed" bumper stickers on our last visit up there. That didn't seem to jive with the community garden, et al., although I assume the place has a mix of folks in residence.
