Losing the Baby Weight

in Thoughts and Ramblings

blog-weight-loss-funnySo O. will be 11 months old soon, and, I’m getting back to myself.  I feel pretty good.  I exercise every day (mostly) and fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes.  But, my belly really does look like it’s been stretched to the moon and back three times!

To me that’s partially a badge of honor only a mother could be given.  And I think this is a very special thing, and really, am OK with how I look.  But, the other part would like to see things toned up a bit!  I’ve never had a six pack or anything, but, I’d like to be able to jiggle a bit less when I wiggle if you know what I mean!

Part of my problem is my love of chocolate, and sugar.  I mean, I REALLY love sweets, and seem to eat enough to feed several people each day!  This is totally unhealthy and is a horrible model for my kids.

Something’s gotta change!!!!

I’m pretty lucky, I do have regular exercise as part of my daily routine already.  When I turned 31 and already had two boys (and was still carrying about 10-15lbs of extra baby weight from K.’s pregnancy) I asked for a treadmill for my birthday.  My parents and Mr. T. and the kids all went together and got me one!  I love the ol girl….and have been walking at least 20 min most days since I got her.

This did help get rid of a lot of the weight I gained with O. pretty quickly.  But, there still probably about 5lbs extra there (I don’t own a scale) and, like I said, my belly is “like a bowl full of jelly!”

I’ve gotta find some new exercises to add to my workout routine to try and tone up, and, most importantly, I’ve got to change my eating habits and get healthy!.

I know some people have found success with diet plans like Medifast and Nutrisystem.  They teach you portion control, meal planning, and the overall benefit of being educated about what you eat.  Best of all, they also help you lose any extra weight in the process!  The can be pricey, but, you can always easily find Nutrisystem coupons online!

Others just go cold turkey, throw out all the unhealthy stuff, buy good food and get on with it.  While others look for personal trainers, or personal chefs.  There are a lot of options, but I’m not sure what would work best for me.

I know Mr. T. will make the change with me.  We actually used to eat really well, but, over the years, have gone back to some of the habits we had worked so hard to break (like eating refined sugar).  And, he’s totally supportive.  He already complains about the amount of sweets in the house, and actually cut out sugar totally when he had a horrid eczema outbreak last year (which is a story in and of itself worthy of telling at another time!).  So, he’ll definitely be on board, which is priceless!

What’s important for me is to simply reduce the amount of sweets I eat.  I can’t eliminate them from the house entirely, my kids love sweet treats too.  But, we can, like everything in life, try to live somewhere in the middle; to find balance between eating a shitton of sweet food, to eating just something once in awhile or so.

I know if I make these changes the rest of the baby weight will come right off, and, more importantly, I’ll feel good and be healthy….I just need someone to remind me of that when I reach for the rest of that carrot cake in the kitchen later today!
