Some of I.'s drawings he has done in the class
I. and K. both love to draw. Usually though, if I’d ask them if they’d like to take any type of drawing or painting class to learn more they’d say that they weren’t interested.
Then, the other day I read about some free drawing classes being held at the local library. When I told the boys, I. was actually really into it.
So, we went.
I must say, I was a bit apprehensive since I didn’t know the instructor (some art teachers have been known to actually squash a child’s love of art instead of help it blossom!). But, like all things, you never know until you try it, and we figured we’d at least go check out the class and see what we thought!
Well, I. loved it and he drew some amazing pictures!
One of the teacher, Catinka Knoth's paintings
For me, I really think the teacher has a wonderful way of helping her students create art.
Her name is Catinka Knoth. She’s a local artist who has been drawing and painting for many years. She’s a very enthusiastic teacher and is so supportive of individual expression – never making them draw exactly what she does. And, she’s just really positive about the children and about them creating art.
As a cash strapped family, the Free part is fantastic too! Two of Catinka’s summertime students pay for the class so that the local children can come and learn from her for free! What a great gift to the community…one that we’re excited to keep taking advantage of!!!
