Mr. T. and I took our two pirates to Damariscotta today so they could help invade the town! Each June “The Mystic Pirates of the Damariscotta” attack the town to help raise money for the Family Holiday Wishes program which helps area families with food and presents during the Holiday season.
The pirates arrived at High Noon in 3 different ships – one of which was an old schooner complete with pirate flags! There were cannons blasting both on land and on the ships, and the pirates had their muskets (fabulous looking antiques!) which they were also firing.
Then, along the shore were 3 different areas manned by other piratey looking “Town Defenders”. We hung out with some of the defenders who were firing cannons – and man was it LOUD. It was cool though and I. in paticular really enjoyed seeing the old weapons go off.
After the boats docked, we all walked down the streets to defend the town – or – to join up with our fellow pirates. We joined the pirates…of course!
After some more traipsing through town there was a sword fight, a treasure hunt, a costume contest and lots of great food and games!
It really was a great time; especially for our two pirates who don’t get to sail the high seas with their “brethren” as often as they’d like!
